oh people i just realised we got ripped off our money for the class tee. Anne showed my coach our class tee and he said he could print it for us for less than 15 bucks and 15 bucks at most (my coach runs a shirt printing business). and if we pay $20 for the tee, he would throw in a class cap for us for less than $5 so now the CCM is considering if we should have a class cap this fri so i'll keep you guys updated!

well, school's starting in 2 more weeks...and gonna take different subjects. like HISTORY which i totally hate. oh yeah talking about the change in subjects...no more geography which means i will flung my next half of the year. and Mr Sharman left school! WOW cos we'll never get to see him again and he's totally out of our life! haha...not that i hate him but he's actually quite a good teacher. (am i saying the wrong thing?) whatever. i doubt you guys will miss him too. and dont forget that we're going for the AYG preview on 27th June. Report to school before 12.15 at the indoor sports hall and the whole program starts at 2 and ends at 6.

Singapore confirms 6 more H1N1 cases bringing total to 27 so far

SINGAPORE: Singapore has confirmed six more H1N1 cases. Five of them are children between the ages of three and 15.

Two of them, aged six and seven, are Australian siblings from Melbourne, travelling in a family of five on holiday.

The sixth case is the mother of the three—year—old boy, both of whom are Singaporean.

The mother and son had gone to Melbourne on holiday on June 3. Another boy, a 12—year—old Singaporean studying in Melbourne returned via Perth on a Tiger Airways flight at 2am on June 8. He later developed symptoms on the evening of June 10.

All travellers had arrived from Melbourne since June 8 except the 15—year—old boy who’s a Singaporean studying in the United States.

These cases bring the total number of confirmed cases in Singapore to 27.

The Health Ministry has initiated contact tracing for all six cases on the following flights:

— 51 to 55 on Qantas Airways QF9 from Melbourne at 2115 hours on June 11
— 30 to 34 on Japan Airlines JL711 from San Francisco via Tokyo at 0030 hours on June 11
— 31 to 35 on Singapore Airlines SQ228 from Melbourne at 2140 hours on June 9.

Those who have not been contacted by the Health Ministry yet should call its hotline at 1800—333—9999.

The ministry said that two patients, the eighth and 16th cases have been discharged bringing the total number of discharged patients to 15.

WHO declares flu pandemic

The swine flu has escalated into the world's first influenza pandemic in 40 years, the World Health Organization declared, after infecting tens of thousands of people in 74 countries.

WHO Director General Margaret Chan said the declaration of a "moderate" pandemic should not spark panic and did not mean the death toll from A(H1N1), which currently stands at 144, would rise sharply.

The UN body said it was not recommending the closure of borders nor restrictions in movement of people, goods and services. But it warned the virus was spreading beyond the Americas where it was first detected in April.

"We will be raising our pandemic alert level to level six; and this means that the world is moving into the early days of its first influenza pandemic in the 21st century," Chan told reporters after a meeting of scientific experts.

"At this time, the global assessment is that we are seeing a moderate pandemic," she added.

The WHO raised its six-phase alert level to five at the end of April, indicating an imminent pandemic.

The latest WHO figures show that the number of reported A(H1N1) infections has reached 28,774 in 74 countries, including 144 deaths.

The vast majority of the deaths have been in Mexico, the original epicentre of the outbreak, and no deaths have been announced outside the Americas.

"Moving to pandemic phase six level does not imply we will see increase in number of deaths or very severe cases," said Chan.

"Quite on the contrary, many people having mild disease will recover without medicine in some cases, and it is good news, but the tendency to move into complacency is our biggest concern," she added.

Chan said the health agency is concerned that the virus is causing "very severe disease disproportionately" among people 30 to 50 years old.

WHO Assistant Director General Keiji Fukuda warned the pandemic could last up to two years.

"For a period for one to two years the virus is going around the world, and is getting people infected in a way a pandemic virus will get people infected... We need to be flexible how we respond to it," said Fukuda.

The declaration comes amid growing evidence that the virus, which originated in Mexico two months ago, is now being widely transmitted between humans in Asia and Europe as well as the Americas.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon said the announcement was not "a cause for alarm" as it reflected the geographical spread of the disease, but the world needed to be prepared.

"Though infectious, this new virus has so far not been as severe as had been feared and death rates have been low," the UN secretary general told a press conference at UN headquarters in New York.

Australia was considering raising its swine flu alert level Friday, with health officials holding emergency talks.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Australia had prepared well for the outbreak but he warned the population's mobility could cause problems. The country currently has 1,307 confirmed cases including four in intensive care.

EU officials promised measures on Thursday to reduce the impact of swine flu as Spain said 22 schools in the Madrid region had been hit by the virus.

The United States said it was well prepared to tackle the pandemic as it had been taking precautionary measures.

"We acted aggressively to stay ahead of the virus as it spread across the country. Now our challenge is to prepare for a possible return in the fall," Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement.

Hong Kong authorities Thursday ordered all primary schools in the city to be closed for two weeks after the first cluster of local swine flu cases was found in the Chinese territory.

In Germany, a school for Japanese youngsters in the western city of Duesseldorf was closed after 27 children tested positive for the virus. And in Australia, four swine flu victims were admitted to intensive care wards.

Following the announcement, the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies were mobilising to respond to the pandemic.

Chan said that it was up to individual countries to decide how to proceed given the outbreak was now classified as a pandemic.

"The global level assessment is very different from national level assessment because it has to take into account the vulnerability of the population in a specific country and also the health system resilience," she said.

Although no vaccine against A(H1N1) has yet to be produced, drug companies are looking to come up with one by the end of June or early July and last month sent three "seed viruses" to drug companies for use in making a vaccine.

Chan said the WHO would ask drug-makers to quickly prepare to produce swine flu vaccines once the production of seasonal flu shots ends in the next couple of weeks.

The last flu pandemic came after an outbreak of the H3N2 viral strain from 1968-69, which originated in Hong Kong, and went on to kill up to two million people.

SINGAPORE: Singapore on Thursday confirmed three more cases of Influenza A (H1N1), bringing the number of infected persons in the country to four.

A day earlier, Singapore confirmed its first case of A(H1N1) flu, in a 22-year-old female Singapore Management University (SMU) student who recently returned to the city-state from New York.

The second confirmed case is a 43-year-old Singapore Permanent Resident who returned to Singapore from San Francisco via Manila on Tuesday (26 May) at 1750 hours.

She was on Singapore Airlines flight SQ 917 and was seated at 33H. She became unwell while on board.

The third confirmed case is a 28-year-old American woman working in Singapore. She returned to Singapore from Honolulu via Tokyo on Tuesday (26 May) at 2353 hours, on United Airlines flight UA 803. She was seated at 33C and became unwell on 26 May.

The fourth confirmed case is a 28-year-old Singaporean man who returned to Singapore from Chicago via Hong Kong on 25 May at 0036hrs. He was on United Airlines flight UA 895 and was seated at 55H. He became unwell on 25 May.

The patients are currently being treated at the Communicable Disease Centre at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

In a statement, the Health Ministry says their symptoms are relatively mild and all the patients are in stable condition.

Contact tracing of their close contacts, including passengers on the same flights, is ongoing. They will be quarantined and provided with antiviral prophylaxis.

The Health Ministry says that passengers within three rows in front and behind the cases who have not been contacted by MOH yet should call the MOH hotline at 1800-333 9999.

The affected rows for SQ 917 are 30-36; for UA 803, the affected rows are 30-36 and for UA 895, the affected rows are 52-58.

The Health Ministry reminds those who have travelled in the preceding 7 days to affected countries to seek immediate medical attention once they develop influenza-like symptoms, and call 993 for an ambulance. This, it says, will help minimise the risk of infecting those around them.

Meanwhile, the MOH has also reminded all medical practitioners and healthcare institutions to continue to be vigilant for suspect cases.

Monday school reopens. Whoo! remember to bring the consent form for the Metta home, the report card and for some people, the debate edusave. Unlucky Liverpool is facing Chelsea in the Champions League and Man Utd is facing the easiest club of all, FC Porto. But FC Porto beat Man Utd in the finals in Champions League in 2004. Ronaldo scored a penalty in the 23rd min, Torres equalised in the 28th, Gerrad scored a penalty in the 44th min cos of Van Der Sar who comitted a foul, then Vidic got a red card, Aurelio scored again, and now, Dossena scored.
